Intel Core i9-13900KS Special Edition, 8P+16E/32T, 3.20-6.00GHz, boxed ohne Kühler

The Intel Core i9-13900KS is the fastest CPU that Intel is offering this generation. Our review confirms that its clock speeds reach 6.0 GHz, but power consumption also sets a new record. How's gaming performance vs 7800X3D and 7950X3D? Our review has the answers.

With their KS processors, Intel has seemingly abandoned any semblance of power and thermal efficiency and instead gone into the realms of max power and charge ahead at any cost territory. This makes purchasing the Core i9-13900KS heavily dependent on the system it will be installed into, including having ample cooling and power supply capabilities to let it stretch its legs. Pulling 360 Watts is no small amount of energy for the processor to contend with without factoring any of the above into the equation.

Make no mistake: the Special Edition Core i9-13900KS is the fastest desktop PC chip ever built. At least for now. However, AMD's Ryzen 7000X3D is approaching fast. Stay tuned.

Occasionally when wrapping up our thoughts on a product the parts that are less positive require more writing than the bits that are positive, so whilst the raw word count might be skewed in one direction it is important to state the following at the beginning. If you want the fastest desktop processor Intel currently offer then the Intel Core i9-13900KS is the one for you. If you want to have a system that has the kind of clockspeed that was previously reserved for people playing around with liquid Nitrogen, the Core i9-13900KS is for you. If you just want to make the most of your LGA1700 socket, yes that's right, the Core i9-13900KS is the one for you. It's insanely capable.

Summarizing the Intel Core i9-13900KS’ performance is simple – this is the fastest, mainstream desktop processor we have tested to date. For heavily multi-threaded workloads, there are some HEDT processors out there with many more cores and additional memory channels, that’ll crush any of the mainstream parts tested here. But those platforms pale in comparison to the Core i9-13900KS while running single-threaded workloads, in most productivity tasks, or while gaming. For the vast majority of desktop computer users, the Core i9-13900KS is the fastest processor currently available. It didn’t sweep the competition in every benchmark, but did take the top spot in most tests.
