ASRock X570

ASRock has a solid and cost-effective motherboard via the ASRock X570S PG Riptide, and it ticks a lot of boxes in the sub $200 marketplace. We would have liked to have seen a better power delivery and software bundle supplied with the board, but users looking to overclock will appreciate the intuitive and easy-to-use BIOS, and AMD's Ryzen Master overclocking utility does the job better than most vendors overclocking software anyway.

While the ASRock X570S PG Riptide isn't something I would personally buy because it simply does not meet my needs, it is something to consider for gamers on a tight budget. It ticks off all the basic necessities for someone who is all about the plug and play mentality—someone who doesn't want to play around with memory or CPU settings and rather just lets all the auto-features and CPU boosting do what it is designed for. I think this ASRock X570S PG Riptide will be right on the line for many; some will see it as a horrible product, while others may see it for what it is: a motherboard for a gaming-oriented PC if on a limited budget.

Today we will be taking a look at the ASRock X570S PG Riptide motherboard, which is designed for gamers and users who wants great performance at an affordable price. It features the latest X570S chipset, a fanless version of the orginal X570. It’s compatible with all of the AMD Ryzen 3000, 4000 G-Series and 5000 series of desktop processors, and supports memory speeds of up to DDR4 5000+ (OC).

The X570 chipset will remain AMD's preferred premium mainstream solution for a while yet. That's enough reason for manufacturers to build multiple boards addressing a wide range of price points and features. ASRock looks to effectively tread a middle ground with the X570 PG Velocita. There's plenty of good at the mooted £240 price point, including a 14-phase supply, 2.5G Ethernet and WiFi, above average cooling, a fast, intuitive BIOS, and performance about as good as X570 gets. That's not to say it's perfect. We'd like a third M.2 slot, especially if using the Thunderbolt connector, 20Gbps USB certainly wouldn't go amiss, and we'd prefer ASRock to tone down the aesthetics some. Then there's competition such as the MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk WiFi, which offers ostensibly the same level of features for £40 less. Choices, choices. Overall, though, at the price point, we look upon the X570 PG Velocita favourably as the good outweighs the bad. Certainly one to put on a shortlist for that next Ryzen 5000 Series build.

When AMD launched their Ryzen 5000 series processors late last year we sort of got a “refresh” of X570 motherboards. One of those boards was the ASRock X570 PG Velocita, which sits in their Phantom Gaming (PG) line. This board is all ready for the new 5000 series processors with upgraded power stages, Killer networking for both the 2.5G LAN and 802.11ax WiFi 6, USB 3.2 gen 2, Gen4 M.2 NVMe storage, and of course a sleek design with RGB lighting. Is this the board you need to get for your Ryzen 5000 series build? Read on as we find out!

I’m not sure why ASRock hasn’t already named their X570 Creator as their flagship motherboard … they should! This motherboard is in my opinion, THE benchmark by which all X570 motherboards should be measured. It offers excellent performance, and a rich feature list that’s just unbelievably attractive. If you’re a content creator or a high-end power user, then you have to check out the ASRock X570 Creator for sure. Well done ASRock!

Das ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming ITX/TB3 ist ab 223,80 € erhältlich. Es verfügt über eine gute Kühlung der SpaWas und bietet zahlreiche Anschlüsse. Nur beim M.2 Slot gibt's nur einen auf der Rückseite. Auch bei den Einstellungen zum Übertakten lässt es kaum einen Wunsch offen. RGB Enthusiasten werden sich freuen, dass sowohl ein 3-Pin 5 Volt aRGB als ein 4-Pin 12 Volt RGB Header vorhanden sind.

The addition of an integrated rear I/O shield is a welcome and maybe even overdue feature. Not only is it one less thing for people to worry about (and it does not matter how many computers you have built, there is always the risk of forgetting to install the shield before putting everything else together), but it also shows an attention to detail and determined adherence to the theme of the board. Despite the small size, ASRock still managed to get a decent-looking RGB zone on the ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming ITX/TB3, as well as a couple of RGB expansion headers.

One of the cheapest X570 motherboards available with good performance and a reasonable feature set. The only downside is current B450/X470 pricing if you don’t care for PCI-E 4.0.

Despite some of the questionable design choices ASRock made with the X570M Pro4 motherboard, the board is laid out very well, has a nice UEFI, and performs at least on par with its reasonable (for X570) price point. MSRP is $185.99, but I’ve monitored the actual selling price to fluctuate between $155 and $180 USD (current price is down to $149 – Ed.). The lack of an internal USB 3.2 Gen 2 is disappointing, and the VRM heatsink is just a poor design. The audio I/O choices are a bit odd, but certainly no deal breaker.

Alle Boards mit VRM-Kühler hatten keine Probleme mit höheren Lasten, selbst wenn die Spannungswandlerverluste bei dem einen oder anderen Board höher lagen. Wenn ich später die Boards ohne Kühlkörper messe, dann geschieht dies lediglich zu Demonstrationszwecken und nicht deshalb, weil eines der Boards für seine Aufgabe ungeeignet gewesen wäre. Die Bauelementeauswahl unterliegt stets auch Kostenzwängen, so dass man natürlich auch Abstriche akzeptieren muss, solange die Funktionalität und mögliche Haltbarkeit nicht nachweislich beeinflusst werden.
