However, users should note that the PCIe X16_2 slot and M.2_3 slot share lanes, meaning the M.2_3 slot will be disabled if the PCIe X16_2 slot is used. Overall, the B850-A Gaming WiFi is a reliable and well-rounded motherboard for those planning to build a new system with AMD Ryzen 9000 series desktop processors.

If you love the design of the ProArt range of ASUS products but can't justify the outlay for the X870E or Z890 options, the company finally has a more affordable option with a lower end 800-series chipset. The ProArt B850-Creator Wi-Fi Neo is one of ASUS's latest refresh Socket AM5 models for 800-series chipsets, that comes with new features as well as the striking ProArt design. Unlike most previous B850 motherboards, we now have dual PCIe Gen 5 M.2 ports and these have dedicated lanes that aren't shared with other devices. The BIOS size has doubled from 256 Mbit (32 MB) to 512 Mbit (64 MB) to allow for driver integration, future features and potentially CPU support, and the list of upgrades from the B650 predecessor is even more extensive.

The ASUS TUF Gaming B850I Wi-Fi Neo is a new Mini-ITX option for Socket AM5 CPU owners and a solid effort with good performance plus a great EFI and software package. It can handle PCIe Gen 5 SSDs and AMD's flagship 16-core CPUs, but does its price give the competition the last laugh?

ASUS has been a strong supporter of the Mini-ITX form factor ever since it joined the party with its enthusiast-orientated P8Z77-I Deluxe nearly 15 years ago, and the ROG Strix B850-I Gaming Wi-Fi sits at the end of a very long pedigree of products. Since then, ASUS Mini-ITX boards have usually been the ones to beat. ASUS might not have joined ASRock with their fabulous high-end desktop X99 and X299 models, but on mainstream boards it's ASUS that has the most drool-worthy options.

While it's sometimes considered the poorer, less interesting cousin to Mini-ITX, the ASUS TUF Gaming B850M-Plus Wi-Fi's microATX form factor still has a lot going for it, with several decent and affordable cases available that are just as happy air cooled as they are liquid cooled. With Mini-ITX often demanding a premium for similar specifications, and ATX taking up unnecessary space if you just have a single GPU alongside typical storage and cooling requirements. If you need an AMD motherboard and fancy a microATX fling for a change, then from the start we can say the TUF Gaming B850M-Plus Wi-Fi is a solid choice for around $200.

While it is positioned below the top-tier ROG Crosshair series, the ASUS ROG STRIX B850-A GAMING WIFI7 NEO is a well-rounded motherboard that successfully combines premium aesthetics with a comprehensive feature set for AMD’s AM5 platform. Its clean white design will undoubtedly appeal to users building white-themed systems, but the board offers much more than visual appeal alone. Strong power delivery, PCIe 5.0 GPU and M.2 support, 5Gb Ethernet, WiFi 7, and ASUS’ growing collection of DIY-friendly features all contribute to a polished and complete package. What stands out most is that ASUS has focused not only on specifications, but also on improving the overall building and ownership experience. Features such as PCIe Slot Q-Release Slim, M.2 Q-Latch, M.2 Q-Release, BIOS FlashBack, and Q-Antenna show a clear understanding of the challenges PC builders often face during assembly and upgrades. While the RM 1,450 price tag might be on the higher side for a B850 board, I consider this the premium B850 chipset motherboard for what it has to offer. The price is still somewhat justifiable given the QOL features and quality BIOS, which is something you can really expect from an ASUS motherboard.

The ASUS ROG Strix B850-A Gaming Wi-Fi7 Neo brings a cleaner white design, cooler VRM temps, and useful improvements like tool-free M.2 heatsinks and a smarter GPU release. It also adds Wi-Fi 7, 5 Gbps Ethernet, and a 20 Gbps USB-C header for modern AM5 builds.
