Nachdem wir uns vor zwei Tagen die Founders Edition der GeForce RTX 3070 angeschaut haben , folgen heute die ersten Custom-Modelle. Diese unterscheiden sich vor allem hinsichtlich des Taktes, Power-Limits und in der Kühlung. Wo die Vor- und Nachteile der einzelnen Modelle liegen, schauen wir uns auf den nun folgenden Seiten an.

That's more like it, ASUS. We've recently looked at the RTX 3060 Ti TUF in our roundup of the latest addition to the Nvidia Ampere range, and the pricing of the RTX 3060 Ti was so aggressive that the addition of this cooler to that card meant the price was just untenable. By virtue of placing it on a card which has a larger margin on the price the RTX 3070 TUF, by contrast, is actually more affordable than many of it's rivals and right in the midst of the RTX 3070 options. Suddenly the cooler which made the Ti card overpriced becomes one of the best in its price bracket. Undeniably the star of the show, the cooler feels premium straight out of the box. We understand the feel of a card is nowhere near as important as its ability to produce buttery smooth gaming, but when you've just spent £600 on a new graphics card you want to gingerly remove it from the anti-static packaging and feel that you've got good value on your investment. With an all-metal surround both front and back that definitely is the case here. Additionally the feel isn't even the best bit about the cooler, but it's ability to keep your card frosty. It's easily the coolest of the RTX 3070s we've tested, and this has benefits when it comes to it's ability to boost - just a shade behind the more expensive MSI Gaming X Trio - and how quiet it is in operation. The three fans counter-rotate and that helps reduce airflow noise as well as push huge swathes of air across that 3 slot cooler. We're also big fans - heh - of the subtle RGB lighting on the TUF. Just a single TUF logo and line helps keep its no-nonsense vibe going. Of course all that's well and good but we want smooth gaming performance too and the ASUS RTX 3070 TUF is right in the heart of the 3070s we've reviewed. It's not quite hitting the heights of the aforementioned MSI card, but neither is it quite as inconsistent as the Nvidia FE or Gigabyte models were. It's rock solid, and that is in keeping with the whole aesthetic of the card. From the high quality power components, through the outstanding cooling ability, and those business-like looks, it's a card that promises to deliver and does so. We know it's extremely hard to get hold of any of the new Nvidia Ampere cards, such has been their popularity and the current world climate, but when they do start to reappear on the shelves of your local hardware emporium we recommend you add the ASUS RTX 3070 TUF Gaming to your shortlist. Cool, quiet, fast, lovely. The ASUS RTX 3070 TUF has an MSRP of £599.99.

Both the MSI RTX 3070 Gaming X Trio and Asus RTX 3070 TUF Gaming OC are expected to arrive at around $560, which is a 12% markup from MSRP. This seems reasonable given how much cooler and quieter they run when compared to the Founders Edition board, which may only sell at the MSRP for little while and then disappear forever in traditional FE fashion. Asus has suggested that the base RTX 3070 TUF Gaming (the non-OC version) will start at $530 which seems like a better deal as you can just overclock yourself if you care about getting that extra 1-3 FPS. MSI will offer the Ventus 2X OC at the $500 MSRP, but of course, that won’t compare to the Gaming X Trio's cooling capabilities. All in all, both Asus and MSI offerings are solid contenders though we're leaning towards the Asus TUF in this comparison as it includes an all-aluminum design and most crucially, a dual BIOS option.

Today we will be taking a look at the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card that is being sold under part number TUF-RTX3070-O8G-GAMING. This fully custom card is priced at $559.99 and comes with a large triple fan GPU cooler, RGB lighting and military-grade components. The GeForce RTX 3070 delivers performance comparable to the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti at less than half the price, so these cards have the attention of gamers that are looking to max things out on 1440P gaming monitors. It will also be something that 1080p eSports players will be interested in as it will deliver more than enough frames on those high-refresh rate 1080P displays that are popular today.

Die Vorstellung der ASUS GeForce RTX 3070 Noctua Edition sorgte für einiges Aufsehen, denn schließlich hat sich Noctua bei Lüftern und Kühlern einen gewissen Namen erarbeitet, der nun in einer Zusammenarbeit mit ASUS in der Kühlung einer Grafikkarte aufgehen soll. Wie gut dies gelungen ist und wo hier auch zukünftig Chancen zu suchen sind, schauen wir uns im folgenden Test an.

Der österreichische Kühler- und Lüfterspezialist Noctua hat sich mit Asus zusammengetan und die Asus GeForce RTX 3070 Noctua OC Edition ist dabei herausgekommen. Im Test zeigt sich schnell, dass die Kombination in Sachen Kühlleistung und Lautstärke derzeit weder zu schlagen noch auch nur zu erreichen ist.

High-end graphics cards follow a formula that's been tried and implemented over and over again, look at the STRIX series which have been an ongoing success with very few changes. Choosing a vendor these days; you do base on aesthetics, cooling performance, and, in 2021, availability, as performance for most cards is essentially the same. With that in mind, I seem to appreciate more and more what ASUS tried to accomplish with the Noctua Edition RTX 3070, it's something else, a different approach, and we like that. It really is one of the quietest high-end graphics cards on the market, however at the cost of a massive 4.3-slot form factor paired with two high-quality but brown/beige fans. The end result is a virtually silent product in its default configuration. The exceptionally low noise levels allow this product to be a notch more expensive. The RTX 3070 Noctua OC originally had an MSRP of $830, that however already is a $330 premium over the NVIDIA-specified MSRP of $500. Pricing and actual availability will remain to be the biggest hurdle, we looked and found this product selling for 1250 EUR, and that's just a massive no-go zone. The acoustic and temperature performance both are grand, the looks however trivial, the performance is as expected. Overall, if you think from an audiophile point of view, the product has a lot of merits. But again, there are lots of premium products out there that perform close in acoustics with looks to match. Perhaps in the future next to the DUAL, TUF, and STRIX lines we'll see other cards based on an ASUS Noctua line, devoted to those demanding extremely low noise operation. And this conclusion needs to end there. The release of the Noctua 3070 is more of a trial than something for the masses. The release creates a bit of marketing hype and if you're lucky you'll find one in etail. However future designs and gauging the interest of the public with a Noctua series is what this release likely is all about. Recommended for those interested in true silent operation.

The ASUS GeForce RTX 3070 Noctua OC is a pleasant surprise this season, which is dominated by news from AMD and Intel. Personally, I've always wondered why Noctua doesn't get involved in more collaborations—with an extremely strong reputation and brand name, they are THE cooling specialists. I feel like ASUS is a great match for Noctua, as they have tons of experience with graphics card engineering and can offer the resources to support such a project.

Performance is largely similar due to scaling limitations from the GPU and memory, so the choice of vendor is predicated on aesthetics, cooling performance, and in 2021, availability. Asus takes a different path with the RTX 3070 Noctua Edition. Rather than offer more glitz via RGB or an extra 20MHz frequency which makes literally no difference to framerates, the decision to adopt over-the-top cooling is pivotal in reducing noise and creating great PR buzz. A 4.3-slot form factor, monster housing, and an oversized heatsink featuring dual high-quality fans are instrumental in making this RTX 3070 the quietest high-end card we've ever tested. So much so, in fact, that our test PC, cooled by a custom-curve AIO, is practically silent at idle whilst producing the most inoffensive hum at full gaming load. It's true to say that most rival cards can also be made vastly quieter by spending a bit of time fine-tuning the fan curve, but this Asus/Noctua creation does it right off the bat. Some will baulk at the colour scheme, some will be left agog by its sheer size, and others may wish to see the same treatment on the true upper echelons of GeForce RTX and Radeon RX hardware. All valid points. What's uncontestable, however, is this card's ability to churn out healthy framerates with the least amount of aural fuss. Recommended to quiet-computing aficionados.
