Die GeForce RTX 5090 ist das Flaggschiff der aktuellen GeForce-RTX-50-Serie und im Vergleich zum Vorgänger auch dasjenige, welches das größte Leistungsplus zu verbuchen hatte. Die Spanne im Angebot ist bei den High-End-Modellen für die Partnermodelle mit am größten. Während sich in der Mittelklasse und dem Einsteigersegment meist am Preis orientiert wird, halten sich im High-End-Bereich auch vollausgestattete Custom-Designs mit diversen Extras. Mit der ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 OC haben wir uns ein eben solches Modell angeschaut.

Im Test der Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition hat der neue Double-Flow-Through-Kühler in Anbetracht des 2-Slot-2-Lüfter-Formates überzeugt, aber Raum für Custom-Designs gelassen, leiser (und kühler) zu agieren. Mit der Asus ROG GeForce RTX 5090 Astral stellt sich heute ein 3,8-Slot-4-Lüfter-Design dem Duell im Test.

In the end, the ASUS ROG Astral is an impressive piece of hardware, but it’s hard to escape the feeling that it’s just too much. Too big, too power-hungry, and ultimately too expensive for what it offers. It’s a card for the few, not the many, and while it’s great to see ASUS push the boundaries of what’s possible, the reality is that those boundaries don’t need to be pushed for most people. If you’re someone who values practicality, efficiency, or value for money, the Founders Edition remains the smarter choice, but if you’re an enthusiast who wants the best and is willing to pay for it, the Astral won’t disappoint—it just might leave your wallet a little lighter than it should and definitely lighter than the Astral card. So there we have it. The RTX 5090 ROG Astral from ASUS. A pretty bonkers card with a potentially even more bonkers price tag, but I think we all knew that was going to be the case coming into this, though I will say that pricing isn’t confirmed, but I don’t think it’ll be too far off in all honesty.

With its hybrid cooling, it features a large fan on the GPU itself with a full-coverage copper plate for the GPU core, and most notably, pre-installed tubing that runs to a 360mm radiator, fitted with a trio of premium-quality ASUS RGB fans. There’s an attention to detail here, too, with a Phase-Change GPU thermal pad and a protective PCB coating to combat any moisture and debris issues. All small details that add up when trying to unlock maximum performance from what was already a very powerful graphics card. As we all know, cooler temperatures on a graphics card can allow the card to run higher clock speeds and maintain its boost clocks for longer without overheating and throttling and this also gives more room to pump more raw power into the card, which ASUS has done with a suite of 80-amp MOSFETs for improved overclocking headroom. So, on paper, the ROG Astral LC should be a strong performer, but as I said, it’s also considerably more expensive, and we’ll get into the price once we’ve seen how its performance holds up to the competition.

ComputerBase hatte die Möglichkeit, die limitierte Asus GeForce RTX 5090 Matrix in einem BTF-System zu testen. Im Fokus standen Testreihen mit 600 im Vergleich zu den exklusiv möglichen 800 Watt. Der Umgang mit dem „kabellosen“ BTF-System inklusive GC-HPWR-Stromanschluss für Grafikkarten war dabei aber nicht minder interessant.
