Die Asus ROG Xbox Ally X beseitigt mit ihrem neuen Vollbildmodus die größte Schwäche des Vorgängers und bietet eine hervorragende Nutzerfreundlichkeit, die selbst das Steam Deck übertrifft. Die neue CPU-Architektur liefert spürbar mehr Leistung bei längerer Akkulaufzeit, was sie zu einer idealen, leistungsstarken und vielseitigen mobilen Konsole für Enthusiasten macht, die sich auf Wunsch auch in eine Desktop-Station verwandeln lässt.

Ein einfach zu bedienendes Gaming-Handheld zu sein. Genau dort will Microsoft jetzt auch endlich hin. Das ROG Xbox Ally (X) dürfte nur der Anfang sein.

Bleibt am Ende noch die Frage nach dem Preis. 899 Euro kostet die von uns getestete Variante mit dem Ryzen Z2 Extreme. Das Non-X-Modell mit dem Ryzen Z2 A fällt von der Hardware schon deutlich zurück, was sich auch entsprechend in der Leistung zeigen dürfte. Wir gehen daher nicht davon aus, dass sich für 599 Euro viele Käufer für die abgespeckte Version finden werden

Das macht das Gerät für mich bisher nicht zu einer perfekten Ergänzung zur Xbox-Konsole, aber das kann noch werden. Und ich bin ehrlich: Ich bin mir noch nicht sicher, ob ich selbst dafür 900€ ausgeben würde. Wenngleich ihr dafür definitiv keine schlechte Qualität bekommt, so viel ist sicher. Asus ROG Xbox Ally X absolut zu überzeugen und stellt aktuell den besten Handheld-PC mit Windows 11 dar. Dessen Verarbeitung und die Haptik, aber auch der Preis unterstreichen die Positionierung im Premium-Segment, während die neue Xbox-GUI, die sogenannte "Xbox Full Screen Experience", Windows 11 in direkte Schlagdistanz zum allgegenwärtigen Klassenprimus SteamOS befördert.

At the end of the day, we consider the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X one of the best PC handhelds on the market. It packs lots of power and is exceptional at low power envelopes, it's ridiculously comfortable, packs superb speakers and a (still) solid screen, comes with the Xbox FSE that works great (but is still limited in some ways), and doesn't cost more than the ROG Ally X, at least if you're not living in the US.

Still, a thousand US dollars is a lot of money, and you can buy a whole lot more computer for that money if you're willing to go with a larger form factor. We've seen GeForce RTX 5060 laptops going for this kind of money recently as well. Of course, they're completely different form factors and target different users, but it illustrates the point—you have to really want this type of device, specifically for it to be worth it. For those to whom it makes sense, you can't beat the ROG Xbox Ally X.

Thanks to top-notch performance and a new software experience, the smallest Xbox is a big step forward for Microsoft.

Only you can say if £800 is a reasonable price for a handheld that is capable of playing new, technically demanding games, but it's essentially what you need to pay to get this level of performance. Ultimately, I like what the ROG Xbox Ally X offers. It's not a true Xbox handheld console, but for a lot of people it's probably a better, more versatile device.

As a harbinger of Microsoft’s wider gaming strategy, the Xbox Ally is thrilling in theory, deeply frustrating in practice. The promise of seamless, borderless access to all your games and all your progress across multiple platforms in a single place is enthralling — even half-realized like this.
