Death Stranding

Komplett überzeugen kann der Mix aus SciFi Action und Truck Simulator am Ende nicht. Death Stranding bietet keine Bombast-Action, sondern viele ruhige Momente, ein langes Intro und ein Ende, so überladen mit Story und Zwischensequenzen, dass der Controller meistens auf der Couch liegen bleibt.

Faszinierende, betörend schöne Übung in Beschwerlichkeit, die erzählerisch die Geduld strapaziert und letztlich zu gleichförmig verläuft.

In the end, it isn’t Kojima’s story that lingers in the mind, but the stories the game’s systems enable you to create. That, fundamentally, is what gaming is all about, and despite the script’s best efforts, Death Stranding understands this implicitly.

Death Stranding feels like two games in one, designed for seemingly opposite audiences. One is a wholly unique open-world adventure with asynchronous cooperative multiplayer that allows me to feel like I’m part of a community, building a world from scratch. And the other is a long, confusing, deeply strange movie.

Death Stranding präsentiert sich am PC als die ultimative Version. Neben den obligatorischen Optionen auf höhere Bildraten und Auflösungen verdient vor allem die Integration von Nvidias DLSS 2.0 positive Worte, denn das Verfahren kitzelt das Beste aus der hübschen Grafik heraus.

Die Grafik sieht schlussendlich „nur“ so gut wie auf der PlayStation 4 aus. Die Optik ist damit keinesfalls schlecht und bietet einige Highlights. Etwas mehr hätte es aber schon sein können, und wenn es nur das auf der höchsten Stufe weiterhin aggressive LOD gewesen wäre. Die effiziente Umsetzung der PS4-Variante hat aber auch etwas gutes: Die Performance des Spiels ist hoch.

Technisch gute Umsetzung einer betörend schönen Übung in Beschwerlichkeit, die Symbolik und Esotherik über eine packende Geschichte stellt.

Sicherlich sind noch nicht alle Aspekte dieser Techniken ausgereift und NVIDIA wird sich immer wieder den Vorwurf gefallen lassen müssen, mit DLSS eine proprietäre Technik auf den Markt gebracht zu haben, aber in diesem Falle bieten beide Lösungen eine Möglichkeit, auch mit schwächerer Hardware in der gewünschten Auflösung auf höhere FPS zu kommen.

Cutscenes are limited to 60 FPS, but is that really a downside? The game's graphical option could be better, but is that really a problem? As it stands, Death Stranding's PC version is the definitive version of Kojima's latest game, and that is a great thing.

Don't hate me, but I really don't like Death Stranding. For me, it's a terrible game, and playing through it felt like a huge chore. But let's start from the beginning. Death Stranding by legendary game designer Hideo Kojima tries to be different than the majority of games out there. While today's market is getting spammed with run-of-the-mill shooters, copy and paste Assassin's Creed titles, and an endless stream of multiplayer battle royale games, Kojima took a different route.

As stated the game already runs remarkably well in terms of average framerates as well, it is a console port. Being that, a port you will not have the burden to purchase a high-end graphics card, any mainstream graphics card with at least a preferable 6GB or thumbs up 8GB graphics memory will get the job done.

Overall, the Death Stranding PC port gets high marks. The story is engaging, the technology is solid, and the game runs well on just about everything. If you missed it on the PS4, or even if you didn't and just want to revisit, experiencing it on PC is a fun and gorgeous way to play.
