GIGABYTE G34WQC, 34"

We have the G34WQC in front of us today! Now there is something that makes this review exciting and that’s the fact that this panel is a VA. VA panels are considered to be the best of both worlds. We all know the downsides of an IPS and TN panels. VA panels have been knocked in the past for having a lower refresh rate and worst response times compared to a TN but that gap is quickly closing and as you can see in the specs of this monitor this is true. This monitor boasts a 144MHz refresh rate along with a 1ms (MPRT) response. There is no reason to get a TN with specs like this. VA panels now provide high contrast ratios, brightness, refresh rates, good color reproduction, and good viewing angles. This is an ultrawide monitor. This is one thing I never invested in personally. Especially when these monitor first some out. I couldn’t wrap my head around such a slim but wide viewing area. I still have this sentiment to an extent. My main monitor is a 32″ and I just find myself needing the height rather than the width. You can imagine my excitement when I started turning my secondary monitor vertically. Now as far as me not being totally sold on an ultrawide you will get my honest opinion on the idea of an ultrawide. Video guys love ultrawides because they work horizontally. Coders love vertical monitor because they work vertically. And after using this 34″ for a while it offers a great middle ground for both and if you game on the side, let me start by saying “I cant believe how much of my game I have been missing.” I have screenshots and video playback of this difference later in this review! The immersiveness of an ultrawide was an eye opening experience for sure.
