On paper, the Clutch GM51 Lightweight Wireless is a compelling offering: On top of a mouse capable of both 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth operation, you even get a dedicated charging dock for $99.99 in total, whereas Razer charges $129.99 for the DeathAdder V2 Pro alone, and the charging dock would come on top with another $49.99. That said, once we look beyond pricing, the GM51 Wireless loses most of its appeal.

Today we are looking at one of MSI‘s latest gaming mice – the Clutch GM51 Lightweight wireless. And yes, MSI did add “lightweight” to the name of their product. Perhaps for SEO purposes or to emphasize its weight. It features PixArt’s PAW-3395 optical sensor for up to 26000 dpi and 250 IPS. MSI also uses Omron switches for up to 60+ million clicks and boasts up to 150 hours of battery life. We looked at its predecessor, the GM41, in May of 2021, and it has worked fantastically as a daily-use mouse ever since. Previous Clutch mice have been pretty great, but compared to this one? Well, let’s just say that the GM51 is exceptionally well-equipped. It comes with the latest PixArt PAW-3395 Optical Sensor, which can deliver an impressive 26000 DPI at 650 IPS with 50G acceleration, which should hold up to even the most frantic of eSports activities. This is backed up by the 60M rated Omron switches, PTFE feet, an 85-gram design, and three connectivity modes; MSI SwiftSpeed 2.4G, Bluetooth and Wired. It also comes with its own special charging dock so that it’s always ready to go.

In summary, the Clutch GM51 Lightweight fails to leave a good impression. Click latency is too high for an 8000 Hz mouse, polling is not stable almost across the board, and there are further concerns related to the scroll wheel switch and software. Furthermore, the GM51 becomes an even less compelling offer when considering the fact that the vastly superior Razer DeathAdder V3 is available for the same $69.99 the GM51 retails for.
