MSI GeForce RTX 5080 SUPRIM SOC is the company's most premium custom design rendition of the GeForce RTX 5080, a new enthusiast-segment GPU from NVIDIA powered by the GeForce Blackwell graphics architecture. NVIDIA designs its first party Founders Edition cards to set standards in industrial design for its board partners to follow. MSI is up to the challenge with its SUPRIM line of graphics cards that don't just look like pieces of jewellery, but are also designed to be the fastest custom design graphics cards out of the box. These are cards shouldn't just win beauty contests, ideally paired with the company's MEG Godlike or MEG Ace motherboards, but are also designed to go under sub-ambient evaporators to drive record-breaking overclocks. The Suprim SOC has the company's heaviest cooling solution, and the PCB has the strongest VRM solution with the most premium components.

The MSI GeForce RTX 5080 Expert OC has an MSRP of $1,299 and is currently available and in-stock at that price on MSI’s US website (as of this writing). That’s a significant 30% increase over the originally launch $999 MSRP of NVIDIA’s Founders Edition card, but MSRP’s on high-end GPUs are essentially a fantasy in this day and age. There’s 13 Founders Edition cards in-stock on NVIDIA’s Amazon store at this moment – which aggregates from third-party sellers – and the lowest price is currently $1,322. Loop in all sellers and the lowest price we found was $1,199. Obviously, the MSI GeForce RTX 5080 Expert OC commands a premium, but in light of current market conditions, it’s in-line with the competition.

MSI’s GeForce RTX 5080 Expert OC is a custom-design, factory-overclocked model built with a sleek all-metal cooler shroud and backplate, reminiscent of NVIDIA’s Founders Edition. Its through-flow cooling achieves good temperatures with solid noise levels, at reasonable cost.

The MSI RTX 5080 Expert feels like a card designed for users who want top-tier performance without unnecessary bulk or flashy gimmicks. The cooling solution is efficient, temperatures remain low under load, and the compact two-slot design makes it easier to integrate into a variety of builds. If you are looking for a GPU that can deliver excellent 4K gaming performance, take advantage of DLSS 4 and advanced ray tracing, and still run cool and quiet, the RTX 5080 Expert is a strong option to consider. MSI has managed to combine practical design, solid build quality, and high-end performance into one very compelling package.

MSI has a wide variety of RTX 5080 card designs, with 21 different SKUs. Some of those are different variations on product lines that we have seen MSI have in the past like the Shadow line, Gaming Trio, Ventus, and my favorite, the Suprim lineup. There were two new lines though with the Inspire line and the Vanguard line. MSI ended up sending over their RTX 5080 Vanguard SOC in the Launch Edition packaging so we get a chance to see what that new lineup is all about. Let’s dive in and see what features the card has, how it performs, and how it compares with the Founders Edition as well.

The new Vanguard line of graphics cards are positioned between MSI's SUPRIM line of halo-segment custom design graphics cards, and its more popular Gaming X series. The company retired the Gaming Z series with the advent of SUPRIM, so I guess you could call Vanguard the spiritual successor to the Gaming Z. The MSI Vanguard series combines aspects of both SUPRIM and Gaming X. From the SUPRIM you see hints of titanium gray metal alloy embellishments on the cooler shroud. The backplate has a matching brushed-aluminium appearance, and from the Gaming X series, it has certain sporty elements, such as carbon fiber surfaces and acrylic RGB LED lighting diffusers. Under the shroud, the Vanguard features many of the cooler innovations MSI introduced with the SUPRIM series this generation. The GeForce RTX 5080 is NVIDIA's latest enthusiast-segment graphics card, designed for maxed out gaming at 4K Ultra HD, with ray tracing enabled. The flagship RTX 5090 from last week does the same thing, but faster, and has other use cases such as AI development and content creation, thanks to its much larger video memory and memory bus. The RTX 5080 squarely targets gamers looking for a 4K gaming experience, with a few allied workloads on the side, such as game streaming. If compare the specs sheets of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080, you'll find that the latter is almost half the card the RTX 5090 is, and is yet squarely an enthusiast-segment GPU. The RTX 5080 debuts the new GB203 silicon, which is the second largest to implement the GeForce Blackwell graphics architecture. With this generation, NVIDIA is holding on to the process node, so these chips are built on the same NVIDIA 4N silicon fabrication node that the company codeveloped with TSMC, based on the foundry's 5 nm EUV node.

The GeForce RTX 5080 is based on NVIDIA’s GB203 silicon and brings with it 10752 CUDA cores, 84 RT cores, 336 Tensor cores, 336 TMUs, and 84 ROPs. When it comes to memory you are going to get 16GB of GDDR7 that runs across a 256-bit bus. The card will have a base clock of 2295 MHz and will boost up to 2617 MHz. For our first RTX 5080 card will be checking out the MSI GeForce RTX 5080 Vanguard SOC Launch Edition. Vanguard is actually a new line from MSI this generation is really made for people who want a high performance card this is quite flashy and will stand out.
