MSI MPG Series ATX 2.4

While this is not a full, in-depth review (we don’t have the in-house testing equipment to do it properly), we do get to see what the MSI MPG A1000G PCIe5 power supply has to offer. Just like the original model, it offers many safeguards like Over Voltage Protection (OVP), Over Current Protection (OCP), Over Thermal Protection (OTP), and more. The Zero RPM Fan Mode is an excellent feature for those who prefer quiet PCs when the system isn’t being taxed heavily. The single rail design makes balancing the power distribution of the rails a thing of the past.

I would not recommend running this power supply like I did for the testing. I was using one PCI-e cable on each card, when it is recommended to use one cable per connector. But hey, its testing so let’s see what happens right? I didn’t notice any cables getting hot or any crashes, so this power supply was working quite well. As you can see, I was pulling 583 watts while I loaded the system with everything it had. It’s very hard to state whether a power supply will be viable when it’s so close to a new release of graphics cards. And if you have been following that, you know there may be some serious power requirements for those cards. So, me saying this power supply may serve you well, well into the future, may be an inaccurate statement. But as you can see from the testing, I just put it through, it performed pretty well. The silent fan feature will indeed keep your system noise to a minimum. Most power supplies I have had in the past have not been an issue when it comes to fan noise. I like that they included a switch so I could run the fan 24/7 if I chose to you. Not against a quite operation but I think it’s a huge mistake not to include an override to run the fan 24/7. Thankfully MSI has this feature, and I couldn’t be happier. There are two components I try and keep as cool as I can. The CPU and PSU. It’s proven the cooler these components run the more efficient they are.

MSI has a proper offer with the MPG A1000G Power Supply, it offers proper performance versus stability versus quality. It ain expensive either as we spotted this kilowatt unit at under 170 EUR/USD. Combined with a 10-year warranty you just can't complain. However, the biggest worry for MSI will not be the product, but rather the saturated market and in the end, competition. The MSI MPG A1000G delivers really respectable performance, but it is not battling that strong competition. If MSI would have wanted to sidestep the competition and give it a little edge, it would have been nice to see the new PCIe Gen5 type graphics connectors included. Perhaps that's a missed opportunity. We do need to take into account that these are MSI's first steps into the PSU sector, and thus far, things are going smoothly, unlike its main competitor, Gigabyte.

Das erste Netzteile eines Herstellers wird natürlich immer mit Argusaugen beachtet. Um so erfreulicher ist es, dass MSI hier einen gelungenen Auftakt hinlegt. Auch wenn man dem MSI an manchen Stellen anmerkt, dass es sich nicht um eine brandaktuelle Plattform handelt, so überzeugt das Netzteil doch gerade in den für den User relevanten Bereichen. Effizienz und Spannungsregulation, das sind die absoluten Stärken dieses Modells. In beiden Punkten liefert das Netzteil Top-Werte, weit über dem was man erwarten sollte.

MSI getting into the power supply market is exciting to see, especially for people who like to theme out their entire build matching as much as possible to one brand. In my own systems, I tend to mix and match, but the exception to that is when it comes to integrating things that require software. Peripherals and lighting are nice to stick to the same ecosystem for that reason rather than having 10 different programs that you have to keep installed and running. In the case of the MSI MPG A750F, they haven’t reached the stage where software is a concern at all. But like with Asus, I can see MSI in the future going that direction and integrating their new PSUs, water cooling, and cases all into their current ecosystem with their GPUs and motherboards.
