SteelSeries Aerox 3

Wer bei dem Titel hier ein kleines Déjà-vu Erlebnis hat, muss sich keine Gedanken machen. Eine Maus mit fast identischem Namen, aber in der kabellosen Version, hatte ich bereits im vergangenen Jahr im Test, mit der „2022“-Version lässt Steelseries diese Maus mit einer Änderung erneut auf den Markt los. Dementsprechend ähnlich fallen Test und Wertung also auch, mehr dazu im nachfolgenden Artikel.

Those who have a little déjà vu experience with the title here need not worry. A mouse with an almost identical name, but in the wireless version, I already had in review last year, with the “2022” version Steelseries lets this mouse loose on the market again with a change. Accordingly, the test and rating are similar, more about that in the following article.

At just 59g, the Aerox 3 2022 edition feels great in hand and if the paracord cabling is placed correctly you won’t feel any difference as when using a wireless variant. It packs a mainstream TrueMove Core sensor with a maximum CPI of 8500 and should be enough for most usage environments. Durability is right at home thanks to the advertised AquaBarrier protection of the PCB, while the incorporated IP54 Golden Micro switches are very durable and feature a pleasant click response.

Today, we’ll be taking a quick look at the Steelseries AEROX 3 Wireless Gaming Mouse. This gaming mouse is super light-weight, weighing in at only 68g, and offers dual connectivity via gaming-grade 2.4 GHz or multi-purpose Bluetooth 5.0. It comes with 6 programmable buttons, USB-C fast charging, and features Steelseries Pixel-perfect TrueMove Air optical gaming sensor, as well as AquaBarrier™ for dust and water resistance and protection (IP54).

The SteelSeries Aerox 3 Wireless (2022) is a great mouse for FPS gaming. It feels well-built and comfortable for those long gaming sessions. It's very lightweight, and you don't have to worry about the extra weight of a cable, thanks to its wireless connectivity options. It has good click latency for responsive-feeling gameplay. Also, its high-quality PTFE feet offer a smooth gliding experience on desks and mousepads.

With our LAN events and early on with our reviews we worked with SteelSeries back when they introduced their first full mouse with their Ikari and after that, I tried to keep up with their launches. But over the last few years, I haven’t had the chance to check out what they have been up to. The last SteelSeries mouse we had in the office was the Sensei Ten. So we are due to catch up on what they have been up to and today I’m going to do just that. I have had the SteelSeries Prime, Prime Wireless, and the new 2022 edition of the Aerox 3 Wireless to get a look at part of their current lineup. Let’s check them out!

I really like this mouse, like really REALLY like it. It’s easily one of the most comfortable and natural feeling mice I’ve used in about two weeks. That’s not that long I know, but keep in mind, I did review the wired version too. It manages to be innovative with so many aspects, without taking away from a gaming mouse’s core expectations.

If you've reviewed as many mice as I have then it's easy to become a little blasé about them. After all, because of the nature of the human hand there isn't a lot of room for design flourishes and so they all look basically the same. Additionally the Omron switch + PixArt sensor hardware so utterly dominates the rodent world that a lot of mice are the same under the skin too. To some degree that is true of the SteelSeries Aerox 3, but what is definitely not true is that it looks like all the rest.

However, it’s the stunning True Move sensor, the PTFE Glide Skates, and the Golden Micro IP54 80M rated switches that really steal the show here. The mouse is exceptionally accurate at any DPI and any movement speed. The switches are defined and responsive, and overall… I’m struggling to think of any way they could have made it better. It’s one of the finest mice I’ve ever used and at just £60, it really does score top marks. I suspect we see a lot of eSports players holding one of these over the coming months.
