Corsair 6500X, weiß, Glasfenster

Corsair bringt mit dem 6500X und seinen Geschwistermodellen nach längerer Pause wieder neue Zweikammergehäuse auf den Markt. Das neue Modell wurde so großzügig gestaltet, dass es vielseitig nutzbar ist. E-ATX-Systeme mit hohem Towerkühler und langer Grafikkarte sind genauso möglich wie Systeme mit leistungsstarker Eigenbau-Wasserkühlung und stattlichen 360-mm-Radiatoren. Als Glasmodell aus der 6500er-Serie ist das 6500X dabei auch bestens geeignet, wenn die Hardware zur Schau gestellt werden sollen. Erfreulich ist, dass Corsair weitgehend auf Kunststoff verzichtet. Selbst die Standfüße werden aus Stahl gefertigt und die modularen Stahlpanels an Front und Deckel kommen auf eine stattliche Materialstärke von 3 mm. Vor allem aber kann das Gehäuse auch einige Innovationen bieten. Dass Corsair ganz unterschiedliche optionale Panel Kits anbietet, ermöglicht nachträgliche und weitreichende Designänderungen. Die Montage der Panels könnte allerdings noch etwas nutzerfreundlicher sein. Vorstellbar wären z.B. Panels zum Anclipsen oder zumindest eine Montage mit besser erreichbaren Schrauben. Auch im Innenraum gibt es eine Innovation, die der Optik zu Gute kommt. Die Unterstützung von ASUS BTF- und MSI Project Zero-Mainboards wird bisher nur von wenigen Gehäusen geboten (ein weiteres BTF-Gehäuse wäre z.B. das Thermaltake Ceres 330 TG ARGB). Dabei kann die Kombination aus entsprechenden Gehäusen und Mainboards für deutlich mehr Ordnung in der Mainboardkammer sorgen. Und davon kann neben der Optik auch der Airflow profitieren. Mit konventionellen Mainboards kann das Kabelmanagement des 6500X ebenfalls durchaus überzeugen. Dabei machen sich auch die großzügigen Platzverhältnisse hinter dem Mainboardträger positiv bemerkbar. Hinter den Kulissen befindet sich auch der Laufwerkskäfig, dessen Laufwerksschubladen von außen bestückt werden können. Corsair liefert das 6500X trotz des durchaus stattlichen Preises komplett lüfterlos aus. Unsere einfache Beispiel-Lüfterbestückung zeigt, dass das Testsystem trotz der Glasfront adäquat gekühlt werden kann. Mit den zahlreichen Lüfterplätzen wird zudem viel Spielraum für eine effektivere Kühlung geboten. Wird maximaler Airflow benötigt, empfiehlt sich aber der Griff zum gleich teuren 6500D Airflow. Teuer ist beim Blick auf die 6500er-Serie allerdings generell ein wichtiges Stichwort. Denn im Handel gibt es durchaus günstigere Dual-Chamber-Gehäuse. Ein gläsernes Lian Li O11 Vision wird beispielsweise ab 145 Euro gelistet. Anders als das 6500X kann es sogar einen 420-mm-Radiatorenplatz bieten. Noch günstiger ist ein Hyte Y40, das es für etwa 120 Euro gibt. Das Y40 ist konventioneller aufgebaut. Es legt den Nutzer allerdings auf eine vertikale Grafikkartenmontage fest und ist auch sonst weniger flexibel. Eine besonders hohe Flexibilität kann hingegen Thermaltakes Dual-Chamber-Gehäuse CTE E600 MX (ab 180 Euro) bieten. So stellt es gleich mehrere 420-mm-Radiatorenplätze zur Verfügung. Die gedrehte Mainboardmontage mit nach oben gerichtetem I/O-Panel wird aber nicht jeder Nutzer praktisch finden. All diese Modelle bieten letztlich weder die austauschbaren Panel Kits noch ASUS BTF- und MSI Project Zero-Unterstützung. Für diese Neuerungen verdient sich das Corsair 6500X dann letztlich auch unseren Technik-Award.

Die Ära der Aquarien-Gehäuse mit Dual-Chamber-Konzept nimmt wieder Fahrt auf. Für wen ist das ca. 210 Euro teure Hardware-Heim geeignet und wo liegen die Stärken und Schwächen?

Overall, the 6500D Airflow doesn't have a large advantage over the 6500X in air cooling, especially when noise normalized. Its main advantage is that it adds an additional fan or radiator mounting location with 140mm support, but otherwise the choice comes down to personal taste. Again, the two cases are identical other than the front panel. If you need an ATX BTF or Project Zero or MG-RC compatible case, the list is extremely short. Probably. The competing standards and confusing naming make it hard to get an exact count, but the Corsair 6500 series, Jonsbo TK-3, and the InWin F5 are the most visible options made by third parties. The 6500 series has some promising touches, but it'd be improved if it was compatible with either normal motherboards or back connect motherboards, not both. If you don't need compatibility with back connect motherboards, there are cheaper dual chamber cases. The King 95 costs as little as $90 without fans (we've seen discounts even lower) and it includes an optional mesh front panel, and the Antec C8 ARGB should be available soon for less than $200. For that matter, all of the other dual-chamber cases that we've tested recently are close to falling within a $200 budget, even the Lian Li O11D EVO XL and the Hyte Y70 (non-Touch).

The 6500 series is a well-rounded dual-chamber chassis, offering great looks and building options regarding component selection and placement. There is lots of space inside the chassis, but this also means you must install bulky components or many of them to fill the available space to achieve a good look. Corsair has also presented many first-party accessories, including replacement exterior panels, costing significantly extra nonetheless. This chassis is suitable for someone looking for a chassis like this and not mind spending money on it or explicitly wanting a reverse connector motherboard. Keep in mind that most dual-chamber reverse connector chassis on the current market carry a similar price tag. Some of the setbacks we encountered were the unfortunate conflict between the HDD cage and reverse EPS connector, which necessitates the removal of an HDD. However, since this is a $199 chassis, we would also like to see some extras included (for example, a simple fan and ARGB hub). In noise damping, the Corsair 6500X performs excellently, achieving a Cybenetics A+ rating, given to cases with over 8 dBA noise damping performance, which is not easy to reach. Usually, the better the noise-damping performance, the worse the thermal performance because good noise-damping requires an internal chassis that is as isolated as possible. Despite that, at low fan speeds, 25 dBA normalized noise output, the 6500x had a pretty good thermal performance, but I cannot say the same for the full fan speed test scenario. Although the 4x RX120 fans we used can spin at over 2100 RPM and hence are noisy, the thermal performance at full fan speed wasn’t the expected one. The thermal differences were low compared to other chassis we have evaluated in the past, but this was not the case for the average CPU and GPU frequencies during gaming and torture testing. This is why you should always look at the average clock frequencies. Looking at the operating temperatures alone, you don’t see the whole picture.

The Corsair 6500X is meant to revive Corsair's dual-chamber line-up in combination with the smaller 2500 variant. Considering that many brands in the last few years have been bringing their own dual-chamber cases to market, it is a bit surprising that Corsair took this long to revisit their vision of a modern version could look like. That said, the 6500 series is an extremely sturdy, hefty and beautifully understated chassis. At $199.99 for the reviewed 6500X, that is rather expensive when you compare it to what is out there from competing brands. While not as hefty, those do add a bit more detail into their engineering and offer things like embedded ARGB, movable IO, a reversible motherboard setup and more. As such, purely from a cost perspective it becomes really hard to recommend the Corsair 6500X. However, the heft and thick steel employed in the case feels like a strong reason to favor the Corsair 6500X. And, while it may be tooled fairly simply in comparison to the other options out there, the case never falls short by delivering a solid build experience in everything it offers. On top of that the enclosure manages to further separate itself with the excellent liquid cooling capabilities that are uncompromising, no matter which of the placement possibilities you go for - be it the floor, ceiling or side of the chassis. This combination makes the Corsair 6500X stand out somewhat and, while the ability to swap panels to aluminium or wood is a nifty benefit, users may be hard-pressed to let go of the massive steel panels that already look great and have been paid for. Especially as the additional ones clock in between $70 and $80 - in other words money that could be budgeted towards getting you double the memory, a bigger SSD, or better cooling in your new build. All said and done, if you fall in love with the simplicity & functionality of the Corsair 6500X and the very solid build quality, then go for it. Cost aside, it is a great chassis and can thus be recommended.
