DeepCool AK620 Digital SE, schwarz

The AK620 is available currently in both a standard version and the digital (CPU temperature and usage display on top) all-black version which i have here with me today. Both versions have a TDP (thermal design power) of 260W, are based on the U-type (sandwich) dual-tower design and come ready with two 120mm fluid dynamic bearing fans (FK120 PWM/1850RPM/68.99CFM/28dBA) in push and pull configuration. Each tower/heatsink features a total of 50 aluminum fins (matrix layout for increased airflow and heat dissipation) and the six 6mm all-copper heatpipes that pass through both are connected to a nickel plated copper base. Yes, the AK620 Digital might be the largest CPU air cooler around but it's certainly an interesting model so let's see what it offers.

Today we're shining a light on DeepCool's AK620 Digital cooler, a notable entry in the high-end CPU cooler arena. At first blush, the AK620 Digital stands out from the crowd mostly for its integrated LCD screen. Yet aesthetics aside, underneath the snappy screen is a tower cooler that was first and foremost engineered to exceed the cooling needs of the most powerful mainstream CPUs. And it's a big cooler at that: with a weight of 1.5Kg and 162mm tall, this is no lightweight heatsink and fan assembly. All of which helps to set it apart in a competitive marketplace.

DeepCool continues to show its prowess in the cooling market. Unlike many of the big brands out there, DeepCool designs and manufactures all of its products, while many other brands either design their own products and have someone else make them, or simply rebrand a product from another company; Asetek would be a prime example of this. There’s nothing wrong with the other solutions, of course, the industry is built upon this system. However, DeepCool has control over every step of the product’s life, and it seems to give them an edge when it comes to the designs, performance, and most importantly the price.

Two years ago, Mike reviewed the DeepCool AK620 Air Cooler, it was pretty great, but there’s always room for a little improvement. Now DeepCool is back with a new version, the AK620 Digital, with a new all-black design, improved fans, a new top cover that has a built-in LCD display, and a touch of RGB for good measure. It’s basically the same core cooler design though, but I’m hoping to see some general improvements in performance as a result, not just aesthetic improvements. The features list looks good though, with the new Digital version coming with that real-time temperature and CPU utilisation readout right on the top, not needed, but hey, it’s still pretty cool. The cooler itself features 6 x 6mm heat pipes through a large copper coldplate, with the heat pipes and cooler finished in an all-black design, while the older one was an all-silver finish.

DeepCool have sent us some of their latest heatsinks to test, and one of them is very impressive.
