Das klingt auf den ersten Blick nach einem sehr guten Preis für ein DDR5-Board, doch bekommen wir hier aus dem eigenen Hause für 20 € weniger ein identisches DDR4 Board mit identischer Performance. Den Mehrwert bietet hier ausschließlich die höhere Geschwindigkeit des Arbeitsspeichers.

We know we mentioned this at the start, but we think it's important enough that it deserves highlighting again. The MSI MAG Tomahawk isn't the only Z690 motherboard available that allows you to run the infinitely more affordable, more 'in stock', and perhaps more 'already owned' DDR4 instead of the latest DDR5, but the fact you have a choice is hugely important. Nobody likes being forced into a product choice that isn't necessarily the one they want. It's a stark reminder of your budgetary constraints when you've been looking longingly at one particular motherboard but have to settle for a different one. The Tomahawk says that you might love the all-black design and affordable featuree set, but if you're unable to stretch to, or find in stock, a DDR5 kit then don't worry, just grab the DDR4 one. Consumer friendly practises are things we always enjoy. After all, we're consumers too, not some faceless corporation.

MSI setzt dabei auf das bewährte ATX-Format und hat das MAG Z690 TORPEDO mit einer grundsoliden Ausstattung verstehen. So ermöglichen die DDR5-UDIMM-Speicherbänke einen Arbeitsspeicher-Ausbau bis 128 GB und für eine Grafikkarte hält sich der PCIe-5.0-x16-Steckplatz bereit. Hinzu gesellen sich zwei mechanische PCIe-3.0-x16-Slots und eine PCIe-3.0-x1-Schnittstelle.

The Torpedo looks stylish and simple, which is what you'll want as the focus needs to be that monoblock, which you do need to add into your own liquid cooling loop of course. The sheer reality is that with today's build quality of motherboards the VRM does not heat up that much anymore, but keeping it chilled with that monoblock of course always brings down the temps a notch further. But yeah, it is not really needed. Aesthetics wise the look is fantastic with the aRGB integration + you got your widespread essential element cooling covered. As an end result, we have a well-designed motherboard that supports all of the Z690 platform's characteristics + a DDR5 and PCIe Gen 5.0 interface. The storage, network, and audio solutions all perform admirably. To recap, if you're looking for a motherboard that delivers the performance of Intel's 12th generation microprocessors, this one will not disappoint. We believe that the board is an attractive proposition for 399 EUR with the EK monoblock included. Of course, you need to add or add it into a liquid cooling loop, and that's where the real money is to be found. Definitely a top pick.

We believe that board is an attractive proposition, however, please do keep in mind my DDR4 recommendation, simply put with overall the same performance you can save on some money resuing your DDR4. The performance of the storage, network, and audio solutions is excellent. To summarize, if you're interested in the performance of Intel's 12th generation microprocessors while maintaining DDR4 as your chosen memory platform, this motherboard will not disappoint. We feel that board is a compelling offer. It might not sit in that uber-high premium segment, but has the price that is okay, that and you'll save on the bill of cost for not using DDR5. Definitely recommended.

This motherboard also comes in a DDR5 version; the only difference in the packaging is that the DDR4 version includes the memory option in the naming. If one of these boards from MSI may be in your future, make sure it matches your memory choice.

Anfangs waren wir doch ein wenig irritiert bezüglich der Spannungsversorgung mit 12 Phasen, MSI hat aber eindrucksvoll bewiesen, dass hier auch noch leistungstechnisch Reserven nach oben vorhanden sind und dem UNIFY für mögliches Overclocking kaum Grenzen gesetzt sind. Es punktet es auch mit einer hervorragenden Anschlussvielfalt, darunter befinden sich auch zwei Thunderbolt 4 Anschlüsse, drei M.2 Schnittstellen, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, PCIe 5.0 und der Einsatz von DDR5 Speichermodulen mit 6800 MHz+ gehören einfach dazu und müssen kaum erwähnt werden.

Mit dem MEG Z690I UNIFY stellt MSI eine interessante Mini-Platine bereit, die als (sehr) kleiner Bruder des MEG Z690 UNIFY (Hardwareluxx-Test) ins Sortiment aufgenommen wird. Uns hat das MPG Z690 CARBON EK X erreicht, das wir einem kurzen Test unterzogen haben.

Overall the MSI MPG Z690 Carbon WIFI is a decent option with decent all-round performance, but for the more shrewd users looking for a better buy at a better price, there is more value to be had with a few other models at the $350 to 400 price point.

With the new 12th Gen Intel CPUs and the Z690 chipset that Intel launched with them being released. It also means that we get to check out the latest motherboard designs. This time around Intel only focused on the high performance focused CPUs so most of the options that came out were gaming, overclocking, or high-end workstation focused. The first board that came in was from MSI which was one of their gaming focused boards, the MPG Z690 Carbon WiFi. Today I’m going to check out what features they have included with this board and check out how the Z690 Carbon WiFi performs with the new i9-12900K as well. I’m also going to take a look at the MAG Coreliquid C280 AIO cooler that MSI sent over as well for LGA1700 testing. Let’s dive in!

One thing that our testing has revealed is how close all of the Z690 motherboards are. This has been something which has been true of a lot of recent launches, which is beneficial for the purchaser as you get the opportunity to choose a product which fits your budget, feature and aesthetic requirements without feeling forced into a particular product. The MSI Carbon range has long been a solid choice in the middle of the market. Not having quite the same flagship feature set as models in the MSI MEG range, but neither has everything been scrapped in the quest for a low MSRP. As time has passed so MSI seem to be backing away somewhat from the Carbon effect which gives the Z690 Carbon WiFi its name, instead having just enough so that it's obvious, without dominating proceedings. On the Z690 it is really only there on the bottom of the chipset heatsink, and the IO shield section at the top left. We are fans of the removal of any colour at all too, as some earlier Carbons had either red or gold on them, the newest addition to the range is stark by comparison.

Ob es den Anforderungen von Overclockern gerecht werden und vor allem ob es die teils eklatanten Probleme seines Vorgängers wieder gutmachen kann, wird sich im heutigen Test zeigen.

Das MSI MEG Z690 Unify ist ein klasse Mainboard für Overclocker und Gaming-Enthusiasten mit einem schlichten Design für cleane Systeme ohne große Kirmes-Beleuchtung. Die Ausstattung der Platine kann sich insgesamt wirklich sehen lassen, allerdings lässt sich MSI dieses Gesamtpaket auch gut was kosten.

MSI brings forward the Unify series for the casual and enthusiast crowds. With a little bit of everything, the MEG Z690 Unify has nineteen 105 A power stages, five M.2 sockets, and PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 integration. The board also includes PS/2 legacy peripheral support, SLI/CrossFire, and advanced CPU overclocking.

Touching on the performance, the MSI MEG Z690 Unify is competitive against similar models that we've tested so far, but we do have plenty of Z690 models to compare against it in the future. As it stands, the Z690 Unify did well in our system, compute, and gaming testing, with competitive POST time, solid DPC latency, and decent power consumption figures. We observed no weird anomalies during any part of our testing with this board.

The 12th Generation Intel Core CPUs are now available. Intel has gone a long way, but the new architecture features cores with extremely high performance. An energy-friendly platform, however, isn't. The MSI board is leading the stack of motherboards tested to date. But what a fine motherboard this is. MSI LGA1700 / Z690 boards are available in the MEG, MPG, MAG, and Pro product lines, with solutions from each line. Among them are items that are compatible with both DDR5 and DDR4 memory technologies. The latter was not included in the MEG series, which means that individuals looking to acquire a high-end MSI LGA1700 motherboard will also have to shell out money for a new pair of RAM. Expect to pay 629 EUR/USD for this motherboard which by definition is not much faster than a 200 USD one; however it's all about features.

The MSI range is full of options to suit every pocket and requirement, but as their Lightning is to the world of graphics cards, so the MEG is to their motherboard range. It is the MSI equivalent of a ROG Maximus or Gigabyte Aorus. The all-singing, all-dancing, well-crafted expression of the designers art. Here in Z690 Unify form those attention to detail is clear wherever you look. Sometimes with motherboards there is a sense that elements have been squeezed onto the PCB, or alternatively clear gaps where parts have been removed for cost reasons. The Unify, however, is a geometrists heaven. Plenty of right angles, carefully placed hardware in just the right spot for a user to maximise their build whilst also keeping things on the edge of the PCB enough that it's possible to build a very carefully cable-managed system. The longer you look at it, the more details become apparent. Those of us who've spent a long time looking at motherboard designs see more details that leave us nodding in appreciation.

Selbstverständlich kommen größtenteils hochwertige 105-A-Power-Stages zum Einsatz.
